Uber, the multinational online transportation network company, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bab Rizq Jameel to support job creation, education, and resources for Saudi nationals seeking opportunities in taxi ownership and operation.

Working with Uber’s Road to Economic Opportunity programme, Bab Rizq Jameel – part of part of Community Jameel – aims to create further support for Saudi citizens and foster more work opportunities across Saudi Arabia.

Launched in 2003, Bab Rizq Jameel works to help create sustainable training, education, and employment prospects for all Saudi citizens. Since its inception, Bab Rizq Jameel has helped generate over 510,000 jobs in the Kingdom through a wide range of programmes and partnerships. The agreement with Uber is an example of how working with industry partners can serve to empower the community.

Bab Rizq Jameel Saudi Arabia executive director Abdelrahman Alfehaid said: “This strategic partnership between Uber and Bab Rizq Jameel uses technology to empower our citizens and we believe it has the potential to create sustainable work opportunities across Saudi Arabia.

“We are continually aiming to build relationships with experienced partners such as Uber and by working hand in hand with such partners, Bab Rizq Jameel is able to create added value and help a greater number of people receive more sustainable support.”

Nader Museitif, Uber’s head of business development for Middle and North Africa, said: “This partnership is the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia. It reflects Bab Rizq Jameel’s visionary approach and Uber’s commitment to ensuring sustainable growth in alignment with Saudi Arabia’s ‘Vision 2030’.

“As the opportunity grows, we will continue to refine the programme with Bab Rizq Jameel and ensure its scalability and competitiveness across the Kingdom. We are keen to engage more businesses and governments enhance entrepreneurship and work opportunities for Saudi nationals in taxi ownership.”

Uber’s long-term commitment to creating 100,000 work opportunities across Saudi Arabia was designed in-line with the government’s national transformation plan of creating more jobs for Saudi nationals.

The technology platform has committed to investing $250 million in the region, a large portion of that to build on the Saudi businesses and make the technology more accessible to riders and drivers.

As more women enter the labour force, Uber also hopes to play a key role in providing accessibility and mobility through safe and reliable transport options for women to go to work, school, or simply move around the city.

With more and more people choosing Uber as one of the most affordable and reliable options for transport, Saudi Arabia strengthens its position at the forefront of innovation for Uber globally. Most recently, Saudi Arabia was chosen as one of the first countries for Uber to launch a cash payment method.
