Bab Rizq Jameel wins the 2023 Sendian Award for Social Innovation - 1

Bab Rizq Jameel, a company that is a part of Community Jameel Saudi Foundation, has been awarded the Sendian Award for Social Innovation. The award was presented by Asbar Center for Studies, Research, & Communications in an annual competition that recognizes distinctive ideas and practical solutions for the needs of individuals and communities, characterised by depth of impact, wide reach, and sustainability. The winners were announced on the sidelines of the Social Innovation Forum (SIF) held on 15 – 16 February 2023 under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, governor of Riyadh Region.

The Award ceremony took place at the Office of the Governor of Riyadh Region in Al-Hakam Palace, with the award being presented by HRH. Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Dr. Fahad Al-Orabi Al-Harthi, the president of Asbar Centre, bringing together several leading public and non-profit organisations from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Bab Rizq Jameel was one of the three Sendian Award recipients for Social Innovation, along with the Ministry of Interior’s Absher platform, and the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s Nusuk Hajj platform.

The Award categorises social innovation as integrating community service processes with innovative solutions, such as modern methods and technologies, open-source service and innovative activities, online volunteer models, and distance learning. The Award acknowledges new social practices that address needs arising from challenges in work, education, community development, health, and the environment.

Bab Rizq Jameel was awarded for its innovative business model focused on empowering community members. By partnering with the private sector, Bab Riza Jameel provides successful employment initiatives and practical training for young Saudis. Its extensive network of employment and training partners serves three categories: income seekers, individuals seeking training, and employers and project owners. Bab Rizq Jameel’s achievements include participating in creating over 388,000 jobs for Saudi youth, providing SAR 2.5 billion in microfinance and low-cost loans, and offering technical support services to more than 152 startups. As a result, Bab Rizq Jameel is one of the leading contributors to the Kingdom’s social and economic development.

Commenting on winning the award, Dr. May Taibah, Member of the Board of Trustees at Community Jameel Saudi and Director of Bab Rizq Jameel, said: “Our success stems from our focus on actual market needs and placing them at the heart of our initiatives to empower Saudi youth. We are honored to receive the Sendian Award, which testifies to the pioneering role played by Bab Rizq Jameel in the Kingdom’s economic development, which will undoubtedly motivate us to continue our efforts to contribute to the development of Saudi Arabia and achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.”

The Social Innovation Forum is an annual forum that spreads the culture of social innovation, stimulates the global movement in social entrepreneurship, provides a platform for learning and exchanging experiences and best practices, builds partnerships between social work pioneers, and achieves the concept of social innovation. This year’s forum brought together leaders of social entities and practitioners from around the world to network and exchange ideas, with the participation of more than 200 speakers from Saudi Arabia and 15 countries around the world, during which they discussed several issues related to innovation and social investment.
